Let me tell you something nobody in publishing wants to admit: most of the industry runs on shortcuts. Rushed edits. Cheap covers. Formulaic marketing copy slapped onto books that deserved better. I watched it happen for years, and I decided I was done watching.

My name is Martin Balome. I built Caliana Press because I believe books should be held to a standard that most publishers have abandoned. Not a good standard. Not a competitive standard. The highest standard — A+ in every detail, from the first draft to the final product a reader holds in their hands. That is not a slogan. It is the operating principle behind every decision I make.

Why Caliana Exists

I did not start Caliana Press because I wanted to be a publisher. I started it because I wanted to build something I could not find anywhere else.

I come from cybersecurity and air traffic control — fields where precision is not optional, where a single overlooked detail can cascade into disaster. That mindset followed me into writing. When I started producing books, I realized quickly that the traditional publishing ecosystem was not designed for someone like me. The timelines were bloated. The quality control was inconsistent. The author had almost no say in how their work was presented to the world. And the indie publishing alternative, while offering freedom, often meant accepting lower production values as the tradeoff.

I rejected both options. I wanted full creative control and premium quality. So I built the infrastructure to make that possible. Caliana Press is the result — a publishing operation where I control the entire stack, from manuscript development to design, from printing specifications to distribution strategy. No middlemen making compromises on my behalf. No committee watering down a vision to make it safer.

This is publishing with conviction. Every book that carries the Caliana Press name has been through a process I would stake my reputation on. If it is not A+, it does not ship. Period.

What Makes Caliana Different

Most publishers talk about quality. I am obsessed with it.

That means premium interior layouts, not templates pulled from a stock library. It means cover designs that are crafted, not generated in bulk. It means manuscripts that go through rigorous developmental editing, line editing, and proofreading — not one pass by an overworked editor juggling forty other titles. It means print specifications that prioritize the reading experience: paper weight, binding durability, trim size, typography. Every element matters.

I also refuse to cut corners on research. My techno-thrillers are built on real-world systems, real threat vectors, real operational procedures. When I write about a cyberattack, the technical architecture is accurate. When I write about military communications infrastructure, the protocols are authentic. Readers who work in these fields will recognize the accuracy. Readers who do not will feel the difference, even if they cannot name it. That is what separates competent fiction from exceptional fiction — the invisible scaffolding of truth beneath the story.

The A+ standard applies equally to every genre and format we publish. Fiction, educational materials, professional development resources, white papers — all held to the same uncompromising bar.

Three Divisions, One Mission

Caliana is not just a publishing house. It is an ecosystem built around three divisions, each reinforcing the others.

Caliana Press is the publishing arm. This is where the books live — techno-thrillers, literary fiction, historical epics, educational guides, cybersecurity textbooks, and the Caliana White Paper Series. Every title published under this imprint meets the A+ standard I described above. The catalog is ambitious. We have over fifty books planned across multiple series and genres, and the pipeline is accelerating.

Caliana Academy is the education division. This is where publishing meets instruction — premium test preparation materials like Digital SAT Mastery and The American Promise citizenship test guide, along with cybersecurity certification courses, bridge programs, and professional development resources. The Academy exists because I believe knowledge should be accessible and the materials that deliver it should be excellent. Too many study guides are mediocre. Ours are not.

BalomeTECH is the technology backbone. This is the division most people will never see directly, but it powers everything. BalomeTECH handles the digital infrastructure — the websites, the platforms, the tools, the systems that make Caliana Press and Caliana Academy operate at the level they do. I built this division because I refuse to depend on third-party platforms that could change their terms, throttle my reach, or disappear overnight. Owning the technology stack is not a luxury. It is a strategic necessity for any independent publisher who is serious about longevity.

These three divisions work together. The publishing arm creates the content. The academy extends it into education and professional development. The technology division ensures all of it runs on infrastructure I control. That is the vision: vertical integration for independent publishing, built from the ground up.

The Vision for Independent Publishing

I believe the future belongs to publishers who own their entire operation. Not just the manuscripts — the platforms, the distribution channels, the reader relationships, the data, the brand. The publishers who survive the next decade will be the ones who stopped renting their infrastructure and started building it.

That is what I am doing with Caliana. Every system, every workflow, every customer touchpoint — I am building it to last and building it to scale. I do not want to be at the mercy of an algorithm change or a platform policy update. I want to control the full experience from the moment a reader discovers one of our books to the moment they finish it and reach for the next one.

This is not about being anti-establishment. It is about being self-sufficient. Independence means nothing if you are still dependent on someone else’s servers, someone else’s storefront, someone else’s rules. True independence is architectural. It is structural. And that is what Caliana is designed to be.

The Authors

Caliana Press is home to three distinct voices, each operating in a different literary space.

Martin Balome — that is me. I write techno-thrillers rooted in cybersecurity, military technology, and geopolitical conflict. My flagship work is The CRITICOM Files series, along with The ALARIS Protocol, The BLACKWOOD Dossier, and several standalone thrillers. My background in cybersecurity and air traffic control gives me direct access to the operational details that make these stories feel real — because the technical foundations are real. I write the books I want to read: fast, precise, grounded in authentic tradecraft, and relentless in pacing.

Evelyn Martinez writes literary fiction under the Caliana Press imprint. Her signature work is The Mercer Legacy, a multi-generational family saga that explores identity, ambition, and the complicated inheritance of family secrets across decades. Her prose is layered and deliberate, built on character depth and emotional precision. The Mercer Legacy is literary fiction for readers who want substance — stories that sit with you long after the last page.

Daniel K. Wanyama writes historical fiction on an epic scale. The Blood Unbroken is a twenty-book saga spanning from pre-colonial East Africa to modern America, tracing the journeys of families across centuries of upheaval, migration, resilience, and transformation. This is historical fiction as it should be written — deeply researched, culturally grounded, and unflinching in its scope. The Blood Unbroken is one of the most ambitious historical fiction projects in independent publishing, and it is being built to the same A+ standard as everything else at Caliana.

Three authors. Three genres. One standard.
